Hello World!

Hi! My name is Robert Tate, but people call me Bobby. Or Bushae. Or Ricky.

I am a photographer, and more than that, an artist.

I’m not a conventional artist, per se. I don’t follow all the rules established by the “masters.” I like unique pieces. Unique shots. Colors that make you stop. Images that pop. Sometimes I just see the beauty in the slop. (and later on, I don’t, and then I delete the picture because I had no idea what I was thinking when I took it and uploaded it.)

I’ve had a lot of different kinds of jobs in my life. I’ve operated heavy equipment like forklifts and cherry pickers. I’ve driven big flatbed and box trucks on deliveries. I’ve worked on assembly lines using hand tools or welding. Installed tile and carpet flooring…

But never in my life, did I ever take the time to do the things that I wanted to do. The things that I liked to do.

I remember when I was a young kid, I asked my parents for a camera. At first they got me those point and shoot disposable cameras, and later on moved up to small digital cameras like OG Coolpix. But, I had always seen photographers using cool equipment and nice cameras, and the pictures they were able to take were just so far out of my reach… The bokeh. The editing. It was all so expensive, and unreachable.

And then one day, my dad bought a DSLR camera. DSLR’s were the new technology. I think it was a Nikon. He went all in and got a range of different lenses, and filters even. He had telephotos, macros, wide-angles. The whole 9 yards.

He told my sister and I that we could use that camera when he first got it. He wanted us to be able to learn with it and mess around, but the money he paid for it messed with his anxiety, and us putting our fingers on the lenses, and swapping them out and trying to get them attached to the mount pretty quickly made the camera something that was kept in his closet and only brought out to be used for vacations and special occasions.

I’m not going to get into details, at least not on this post, but soon after all of our lives changed pretty drastically, and the routine lives that my sister and my parents and I had lived for the last decade, were gone like the wind that’s carried me since.

My dad died on November 2, 2025 after suffering with lung and brain cancer.

My sister and I were able to sell his house and split the money…

My dad was a free spirit. A little depressed sometimes, but he loved to ride Harley Davidson motorcycles, and he like to ride them as fast as they could go. He loved to play pool, go on vacations, and he liked hanging out with his friends and going to concerts.

He was always starting a new project. Whether he was doing some woodworking, or a random home improvement, welding, drawing, growing marijuana… whatever… he always had something that he was working on for himself.

So with the money I got from my dad… the money that his life left to me… I decided to dedicate it to doing things like my dad did. Starting projects. Living life a little bit instead of just working and doing the normal things. I decided to use the money on things that were risky, for fulfillment of life, not responsibility.

I invested in a full-frame mirrorless camera and a range of high quality lenses suitable for most types of studio and professional photography. I bought instruments and recording equipment. Software to make movies. Paid for classes to learn how to draw better and learn to play the instruments I purchased. And I paid for a year of all my bills and rent so I can focus on these things.

So… Welcome to one of my projects. I hope you stick around and enjoy it. This website is meant to serve as my personal central hub for all of my artistic endeavors, and where one will be able to find everything that I do, from painting, to writing, to photography, to music, to animation. Also where you can find my contact info to set up appointments for headshots, family photos, or event photography.

Thank you if you love read this far on my first ever blog post, and I hope you subscribe or follow along.

(P.S. I always wanted to be a writer too. Maybe even more so than a photographer.)
