I just recently started driving for a rideshare company. It kinda saved my ass to be honest. And, I enjoy it, so that’s also a plus.
I was driving down in Tennessee about a month ago, and my car broke down, 300 miles away from my “home” in Kentucky. It was 2010 BMW X3, which takes premium fuel. I was unaware of the premium fuel catch when I had purchased it a few weeks prior, and I wasn’t happy about it at all, especially with gas prices being as they are.
Well, long story short, (or to save it for another post, because that was an adventure all in itself,) after repairing the car and spending a couple thousand on it, it was still broken.
After feeling a little hopeless and stranded for a while, I found a rental program through a ridesharing app, and I signed up for it. I sold my BMW, I cancelled my personal car insurance, and I was able to get into an electric vehicle through the rental program.
It’s a 2024 Kia Niro, and I’ll probably do a post about my experience with it and my opinion of it as well. This is my first time driving an EV, and I can’t say enough how much I love it. Everything about it.
I’m currently sitting in a parking lot somewhere around Columbus, OH, charging the car, and writing this on my Kindle Scribe, which I also love.
It’s 1:02 am and my arrival time to my destination of Marblehead Lighthouse off of Lake Erie is at the 3:00 am. I’m hoping to be able to get some nice nighttime and sunrise pictures of the lighthouse and the lake and surrounding landmarks and scenery. Maybe take a little walk along the shore and relax, take a nap.
The rideshare and rental program combo is fantastic. Today is a Monday, and over the last few weeks, I’ve identified Monday’s as a lower paying day in my usual area, so I just took the day off and I’ve been driving around all over Ohio, just taking in the sights. I’ve been in Cincinnati, down to Ohio University, wherever that is, now to Columbus for the second time, and will soon be all the way up past Sandusky… what a day, right?
This has given me freedom.
The car is almost done charging, so I’m wrapping up for this segment. I want to finish with an important thought though….
In regard to my car breaking down so far from home, and it wasn’t easy: Sometimes, what seems like a tragedy, is actually a miracle.
Thank you for reading, and I may add some pictures to this post in the future, so don’t be afraid to revisit! 🙂
